How it works

What to expect from a house painting project

Much of what decides how long paint lasts happens before the first coat: cleaning, scraping, sanding, caulking and priming. Every job starts with a visit to your home and a written proposal, so you know what will be done and what it costs before work begins.

  • Free estimate visit, usually the same week or the next
  • Written proposal with materials, prep steps, coat count and timeline
  • The price for the work in your proposal does not change
  • Hidden damage shown to you and quoted separately; you decide
  • A final walkthrough with you when the work is done

Common questions from homeowners

How does a house painting project start?

Call, text or send the estimate form. Estimate visits are usually scheduled the same week or the next. Someone from our team visits your home, and you get a free written proposal with materials, prep steps, coat count and timeline.

Will the price change once work starts?

Not for the work in your proposal. Some problems only show up during prep, such as dry rot under trim or water-damaged drywall. When we find one, we show you and quote the repair, and you decide whether to add it.

Can you help me choose colors?

Yes. Ask for a free color consultation when you book your estimate. We bring color decks to your home and paint samples on your walls when that helps, so you see each color in your own light before we order paint.

Do you paint condos and townhomes?

Yes. Where a homeowners association or a Rossmoor mutual controls exterior colors or exterior work, check with them first; interior painting is arranged directly with you.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, debit and credit card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express). Credit card payments carry a 2% fee.

Do you require a deposit?

Some projects have one. For home improvement projects, California law limits the deposit to $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. Your contract sets out any deposit and the payment schedule.

Ready to plan your project?

Free estimate. Written proposal. No pressure.

“Painting By Ken did a great job painting the exterior of our house. The crew was professional, thorough, paid attention to detail and kept the job site nice and clean. Chris was easy to work with arranging for the project and we are very pleased with the result.”
Barry D., Danville · Yelp, Sep 2026
“After an initial agreement on a color choice and once sampled on the house, I wasn't pleased. Chris authorized six different color samples to arrive without any additional costs until I made my final choice. Not only are we pleased with the outcome, a few neighbors asked for the contact info.”
